  • Ulysses Club Shearwaters Branch is based in Cranbourne, Victoria and is an active group in the community. We hold rides every 2nd Sunday and have 2 Wednesday Rides per month. Meeting at the RSL, Sth Gippsland Highway, Cranbourne on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, you will enjoy great company and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. New Members and Visitors are welcome.

  • The Ulysses Club is social group whose motto is "Grow Old Disgracefully". It represents motor cyclists over 40 and  its aims are:

  • To provide ways in which older motorcyclists can get together for companionship and mutual support.
  • To show by example that motorcycling can be an enjoyable and practical activity for riders of all ages.
  • To draw the attention of public and private institutions to the needs and views of older riders.

  • The Ride Calendar has been posted for February to June and you will see we have a broad range of Ride Leaders for the Sunday rides. However, we have had to make an executive decision and cut out the 2nd Wednesday ride every month. There will be only 1 Wednesday ride in the month, that being the 1st Wednesday of the month. We have had to do this as we cannot get sufficient people to cover the ride leads. It has come down to only 2 people consistently with a couple of others very occasionally.

  • Sunday rides on the other hand, are being patronised well and we have shown an improvement in the numbers turning up. Well done to all members as the Ride Program will only be successful if members participate. Weekends away are always well attended also; again thankyou to all those to participate.

  • For what it's worth, it would seem that the State Government and Vic Roads are at it again in regards to front number plates on bikes. Download and read an email from Damian Codognotto regarding this issue and if you feel strong enough, contact your local State MP.

It would seem the government is hell bent on discriminating against motorcyclists yet again.

  • I remember when I first joined Shearwaters 4 years ago (doesn't time fly) the first person to come over and say hello was Trevor Chapple. He introduced himself, shook my hand and said "Welcome to Shearwaters". He took me over and introduced us to Fran and a few others and helped us feel at ease in a strange situation. We didn't know what to expect as Ulysses was new to both of us. We were made to feel very welcome and that helped us make a decision to join Shearwaters on the night. That is the strength of our club, the way we welcome new people into our midst and that can only help us get stronger.

  • In the November 2007 Riding On, on page 70 was a letter from Vic Lesslie, Ulysses Club National Treasurer to Mark Stenberg and Associates requesting opinion on the Clubs stance on Due Care of Ride Leaders.

The page was headed "All Care But No Responsibility".

From the response given by Mark Stenberg, it is clear that Ride Leaders can not be held liable. Every rider who attends a ride undertakes that they are licensed to ride a motorcycle and are prepared to abide by the law of the land, i.e. the Road Laws as legislated by the Government. It is every riders responsibility to ride in a manner that is safe for fellow riders.

As this is an issue that has affected us all in recent times and people have been reluctant to lead rides, we now have a clear response in writing that should alleviate any fears held by riders.

Please read this article. It is important to the successful running of our Ride Calendar. We need new Ride Leaders and if this article helps put some fears to rest, then it has served its purpose.

A thread has also been started on our notice board. Please feel free to add your comments and thoughts.
